ASER 2009 Annual Scientific Meeting

Emergency Radiology is a growing subspecialty and has become a popular topic for continuing medical education courses over the last several years. The Society’s goal is to maintain the annual ASER meeting as the premier CME course in Emergency Radiology. Attendee feedback from the ASER 2008 meeting in Houston, Texas was extremely positive. This year’s meeting in Orlando, Florida will build on the successes of last year, and further expand the program’s offerings.

The Loews Royal Pacific Resort at Universal Orlando is in close proximity to all Orlando has to offer including award-winning golf courses and spas, plentiful shopping options, a vibrant downtown area with endless nightlife choices, and, of course, Universal Studios. With excellent amenities such as a lagoon-style pool, 5,000 square foot fitness center, and endless outdoor activities, the Loews Royal Pacific Resort will surely make your stay enjoyable and relaxing.

Meeting registration is not yet available. All ASER members and past meeting attendees will be notified once registration is available. If you would like to be added to the mailing list for e-blasts and the meeting brochure, please email your contact information to asermeetingsdept@meetingmanagers.com.

COURSE OVERVIEW AND INTENDED AUDIENCE
The 2009 ASER Annual Meeting will provide a broad overview of current state-of-the-art imaging techniques to evaluate the acutely ill and injured patient. Educational sessions covering the latest advances and trends in emergency and trauma radiologic diagnosis and sessions presenting new and original scientific work are included. The meeting provides an opportunity to meet with international colleagues and discuss new and challenging aspects of emergency and trauma imaging.

The meeting will be of particular interest and importance to clinical radiologists, both in the community and academic centers, delivering emergency care. Subspecialists in emergency radiology, neuroradiology, musculoskeletal radiology, chest and abdominal radiology as well as radiology and emergency residents at all levels of training will also find the educational and scientific material presented at the ASER meeting essential to their core and on-call knowledge base.

MEETING GOALS AND LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of the course, attendees should be able to:

  • Identify which imaging modalities are appropriate for identification and characterization of multi-system injuries among polytrauma victims (MDCT, US, MR, conventional radiography).
  • Optimize imaging protocols using available tools to minimize radiation dose for patients of all ages.
  • Recognize and discriminate between causes of acute change in mental/neurologic status (eg, ischemia with or without hemorrhage vs. extant vascular abnormality vs. inflammatory or infectious disease vs. neoplasm) in the brain, spinal cord and spine.
  • Recognize, characterize and stage acute intrathoracic and intraabdominal non-traumatic emergencies using MDCT and US.
